This Merian's strategic war map shows the troops under Habsburg command and Turkish armed forces in the field as they prepared for battle near Petrovaradin, on the 5th of August 1716, on the eve of the liberation of Srijem from theTurks. The map includes, below its lower margin, a detailed index with explanatory notes regarding troop positions of the two armies. This map was published in one of the editions of Merian's "Theatrum Europaeum".

MERIAN, MATTHÄUS
MATTHÄUS MERIAN (1593-1650) a German topographer, graphic artist, and editor. He studied in Zürich, and worked in Frankfurt. His most famous work, "Theatrum Europeam" went through many editions between 1629 and 1718, and "Archeologica Cosmica" reissued as well several times during the period from 1638 to 1649.
