This Austrian map shows administrative and territorial organization of a part of Dalmatia as it was under Austrian control at that time, more precisely, districts of Split and Makarska. The map was probably compiled sometime in the mid-19th century after the so-called second Austrian administration of Dalmatia (1813-1918) and before the Berlin Congress, held in 1878, according to which Bosnia was also placed under the administration of Austria (Bosnia and Herzegovina shown on this map are still identified as Turkish territories i.e. as parts of the so-called European Turkey). The map was evidently compiled for the needs of the then administration as part of a general overview of the administrative and territorial organisation of the Habsburg Monarchy at that time period. It shows only the district borders with major settlements. The map’s mileage scale is in geographical miles.
